Federated Wireless brings private 5G networks to US enterprises
Federated Wireless is using one of the newly opened bands of RF spectrum to support a plug-and-play service.
Federated Wireless has announced a new connectivity-as-a-service offering that allows US enterprises to buy and deploy private 4G and 5G networks, with a single click through the Microsoft Azure Marketplace.
This end-to-end managed service provided by Federated Wireless includes discovery, planning, design, build, operation and support, enabling enterprises to reap the benefits of 5G with minimum risk and capital expenditure.
How does it work?
The process is pretty simple, Federated’s new offering can be purchased through both the AWS Marketplace and Azure for a monthly fee. Next, the company’s consultants and engineers would do a site survey, ship the equipment and install it on the customer’s network.
The main benefit is that the 4G/5G service operates on the 3.5GHz range, which is similar to Wi-Fi. However, it won’t have to contend with the unpredictability of other users connecting to it. This makes it perfect for applications that require reliability and mobility.
Keeping it simple
Federated’s service runs on the Citizens Broadband Radio Service (CBRS) spectrum, which has been much sought after in the tech industry to ease the spectrum crunch around Wi-Fi. CBRS used to be reserved for government use, but a large part has just been opened up for commercial use.
Federated CEO Iyad Tarazi said that the service is well suited for complex IoT deployments. “So, the ideal customer is one that’s looking at public cloud, they’re looking to adopt advanced IoT and they want simple connectivity to go with it,” he said. “We are not looking to replace Wi-Fi here. We’re going to keep the solution very simple.”
“This is a very fast-evolving market, we’re learning and moving fast, things will look very different in a year,” Tarazi said.
