MyT Mobile brings 5G to Mauritius
Mauritius Telecom's mobile network, MyT Mobile, has launched 5G services in Mauritius for the first time.
MyT Mobile, Mauritius Telecom (MT)'s mobile network, has switched on 5G services in Mauritius, a month after obtaining a 5G license to do so. This makes Mauritius Telecom among the first operators launching 5G networks in Africa.
"With the launch of the four MyT 5G Experience Zones, Mauritius Telecom is the first operator to deploy the 5th generation of mobile network in Mauritius," said Sherry Singh, Chief Executive Officer of Mauritius Telecom.
Ten times faster
At the launch ceremony, held at the Hennessy Park hotel in Ebène, which was attended by the Minister of Technology, Communication and Innovation, Deepak Balgobin, Singh said: “We are going to deploy this network with the help of our subscribers. They are the ones who will register to receive the network which is 10 times faster than the current network. The same packages will be maintained,” via source, NexTV news.
MyT Mobile subscribers in the Cybercity regions of Ebène, Trianon, Bagatelle and Réduit will receive a message from the network to register to connect to the 5G network and begin enjoying the 5G speed.
"With the deployment of its MyT 5G Experience Zones, Mauritius Telecom propels Mauritius on the world map of countries that have deployed 5G and at the same time joins the Top 10 African countries that have launched this technology," said the telecommunications company in a press release.
Continuing to talk about the deployment of the 5G technology, Singh said: “Despite a challenging business environment, we have to take a step and get our country ready for tomorrow's technology...today.”
