New report shows T-Mobile still the most reliable 5G network in the US

T-Mobile 5G proves it continues to be the most reliable in the US, thanks to test results by umlaut, the global consultancy company and world leader in mobile network testing and benchmarking.

The company analysed the three US mobile 5G networks of T-Mobile, Verizon and AT&T with regards to mobile network performance and yielded results showing T-Mobile in the lead achieving the highest umlaut 5G Score with overall 707 points out of a maximum of 1000. Verizon scores second overall with 632 points and AT&T third with 599 points. In 5G Reliability, T-Mobile achieves the highest score with 664 out of a maximum of 800 points, Verizon ranks second with 560 points, AT&T ranks third with of 520 points.

The testing was done over a period of 24 weeks, from January 25th to July 11th 2021. umlaut used more than 1,300 data collecting applications, 70,655 5G capable users and collected over 43.386 million samples.

5G network performance across the US

In the Audit Report, umlaut also analysed the mobile networks in the US with regards to 5G mobile network performance. They took a closer look at ten US markets: Newark – Jersey City; Charlotte, NC; Austin, TX; Houston, TX; Chicago; Dallas – Fort Worth; Philadelphia; Washington D.C and Minneapolis; New York City, to see how the operators are performing in these lively centres of business, politics and culture.

Using Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra 5G phones, umlaut tested and measured the downlink and uplink performance of data services to improve the user experience. Again, T-Mobile showed faster overall download speeds, on average at least 2.2 times higher than the competition. 

5G availabilities above 88% in all tested cities

Umlaut found that T-Mobile shows very high 5G availabilities above 88% in all measured cities, leading in Newark, Jersey City, Charlotte, Austin, Houston, Chicago, Dallas – Fort Worth and Minneapolis. In 7 markets the 5G availability exceeds 95%. The Audit Report also showed that T-Mobile‘s 5G ‘Ultra Capacity’ download speed exceeds 257 Mbps in average, and goes up to 318 Mbps per market and importantly, T-Mobile shows clearly faster average download and upload 5G speed in all measured cities than the other operators.
