The UK has a new mobile network operator: meet HMD Mobile
The new virtual network from the home of Nokia will run on EE’s network and is 5G ready.
Finnish smartphone manufacturer and the home of Nokia phones, HMD Global, has announced that HMD Mobile, a disruptive mobile virtual network operator (MVNO), is rolling out in the UK now.
Service to run on the EE network
HMD Mobile customers will be assured of a reliable, fast, and secure network connection in the UK, as the service is launching on the EE network, which offers fast network speeds and the best geographical coverage across the country. The new network is 5G ready at launch – meaning that consumers’ sim cards will work with 5G – although 5G has not been rolled out across the network just yet. However, this is expected very soon.
“When it comes to data and speed, reliability is critical to customers. Delivering on our promise to democratise mobile technology, we are now able to offer UK connectivity to mobile customers at a truly affordable price without long term commitments. This announcement will further cement HMD Global’s position within the telecoms industry as a company that delivers innovative solutions,” said Omar Riaz, General Manager, UK, HMD Global.
HMD Mobile is designed to bring simplicity and transparency to a fragmented market. The new network will offer UK customers a combination of the value of a monthly subscription with the flexibility of subscription charging.
“We are listening to our fans. We have seen how much they are responding to online shopping and wanted to go one step further. The result is our own independent mobile connectivity service which guarantees transparency, flexibility, and competitive tariffs. We want our customers to love their phone experience and we are proud to continue to offer a seamless experience to our fans,” said Florian Seiche, CEO, HMD Global.
Plans from £13 per month
HMD Mobile plans are available directly from Nokia.com when purchasing a Nokia smartphone. Customers buying 4G or 5G phones can choose from 10 GB data for £13 a month (launch promotion - £39 for 90 days), 15 GB data for £15 a month (launch promotion - £45 for 90 days) or 25 GB data for £23 a month (launch promotion - £69 for 90 days).
“Nokia phones have always been about convenience and great value. Launching this virtual network is no different, as the set-up allows fans to manage their device and connection both more easily and reliably. Over the past year, buying habits and behaviours in the mobile industry have shifted towards digital acquisition. Phone users are now less likely to visit a physical store to service or purchase their device,” said Ernest Doku, telecoms expert, Uswitch.com.

“With an application set-up, where customers can tend to their data usage, access customer support, and make monthly payments for both their device and network, HMD Mobile is well positioned to navigate a competitive market, while aligning closely with a dedicated fanbase’s needs,” Doku continued.
